Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

For theChristian, this verse is one of the biggest proofs of the trinity, because the wording for God is in the plural. Any literature major can clearly see that. However, there are a few religions that believe that God is only one being, and not plural in any way. Because of Deuteronomy 6:4“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Orthodox Judaism and the Jehovah’s witnesses, are among the forerunners who hold this view. If their understanding of God is correct, then who is God speaking to in Genesis 1:26? Both groups would say, “God is speaking to angels.” Which would then mean that angels are co-creators with God. Which I would quickly respond with, “Well where in the Bible does it say that angels created anything? And if angels did co-create then we have huge contradictions in the bible. Here’s a couple:

Isaiah 44:24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,

Isaiah 45:12 I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.

These verses would stop both groups in their tracks, because God is speaking in the first person singular. Which means He had no help from angels during creation.

So, what is Deuteronomy 6:4 saying? That God is indeed one God. However, the Hebrew word for God that is used here is NOT El, but Elohim, which is the plural form of El. And in Genesis chapter one we see Elohim used twenty plus times, and not once do we find the name El in that chapter. Which means, as the Christian believes, that God is a tri-unity God. Three-in-one, One-in three, that make up the One True God.

What part did God the Holy Spirit play in Creation? Genesis 1: 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Job 33: 4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Psalm 104: 29-30, 29 When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
30 When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.

This biblical truth also brings God the Son, Jesus Christ clearly into the picture of Creation. John 1:1-3, 1 In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.

Colossians 1: 16 For by him (Jesus) all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

These verses are but a few that declare God to be a triune or tri-unity Creator God. Remember, the only true God, is the One who is the Creator of all things, so worship Him as the scriptures declare Him to be, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

John 14: 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
